Sawyersmine’s I Need Your Love Tonight

Eric smiled to himself when he realized that was Sookie Stackhouse who had been waiting outside the infamous Studio 54 in her little get up. She looked like a fish out of water. She had intrigued him with her ability to infiltrate his company and expose Madden the way she did. His company was now suffering because of her little ‘Investigative Report,’ on the front page of the New York Times, but it would soon bounce back. Still, it was an embarrassment and Eric didn’t take kindly to public flagellation by a tiny little barely known blonde rookie female reporter from down south. He didn’t think any Wall Street shareholder would either. He suspected there was something more to it, but it impressed him that it was this little ‘Peggy Sue’ blonde from somewhere South, Louisiana perhaps, who exposed Victor for the criminal that he was. It amazed him that Sookie had accomplished all that she had. She appeared as harmless as a fly, but he knew underneath it all she was much, much more. That sparked his interest. And though Eric knew someone like Sookie did not travel often in his circles, he couldn’t help but want to get to know her better, and maybe, just maybe have a little fun with her. Besides, he owed her for getting rid of Victor, and the way she did it.

Eric had a sudden thought when he noted the very fetching and revealing ensemble Miss Stackhouse was wearing. He knew she had to be here on business. Women like her never let their hair down in a place like this, and the outfit she was wearing was like nothing he had seen her wear before. Oh yes, she was working tonight. The thought just encouraged Eric more as his head churned over an idea. What if he got a little payback tonight? She put him on the front page stripping him down figuratively–what if he did the same thing?

Eric was known as somewhat of a party boy, he had been known at times to have a different woman on his arm almost every other night. Wouldn’t it be hysterical if he made that reporter eat her words? Not to mention she was a hot little thing. Not his usual type, but there was something about her. The last time they spoke it wasn’t so friendly, but the tension, the sexual tension could be cut with a knife. So why not have his cake and eat it too?

Eric approached the little blonde reporter like he owned the place and said, “Fancy meeting you here, Miss Stackhouse!”

Pam had shown me into Eric’s dark office. The place could use a cleaning, to my eyes, but I knew not to mention it–Lord knows Eric had more on his mind lately than dusting, what with the Vegas takeover and all. He’d even forgotten to change the calendar, apparently; I leaned forward, trying to see across his desk.

“Well, I’ll be damned,” I muttered. But it fit; of *course* Eric would have kept his own page open on the Fangtasia calendar. Why bother with the date when you can look at your own glorious ass?

As I was mesmerized–by the artistic value of the picture, I’ll have you know–I was interrupted. Of course.

“I thought I gave you your own copies. Are you needing more?”

“Did you see who’s here today?” I scanned the crowd until I saw the tall blond that I knew she was talking about.

“Mr. Love ‘em and Leave ‘em himself!” she giggled

He earned his nickname when Amelia first started working here. On several occasions he’d bring a ‘date’ to Muddy’s on a Saturday morning and they’d order coffee. After a half hour or so, like clockwork, the woman would push back from her chair and leave, having clearly been dumped. Their reactions ranged from irate to just plain pitiful. It had been highly entertaining while it lasted, but he’d been coming in solo for over a year now.

“I wonder if he’s been single all this time or if he just hasn’t found a reason to break up with his latest girlfriend yet.” Amelia pondered.

“He’s not single.” I said. “I think he’s with this Upper East Side socialite type name Felicia who works at the Met.”

“How in the hell do you know that?” Amelia asked wide eyed.

“I’ve seen his picture in some of the social blogs out at various events. He’s always photographed with her.”

“You need to lay off the social news. You know way too much about people you don’t event know. That’s kind of creepy.”

“It’s my job, Amelia. It’s helpful to know stuff like that. Although, yes, it is kind of creepy that I know this about the random gorgeous guy who dumps girls in Muddy’s like it’s his job.”

“Well what’s his name?”

‘I don’t know – they’ve never listed his name.’

‘Ooooooh. Mysterious. Well, I got to get back to work before I get fired. Maybe we can get drinks this week?’

“Sounds perfect. Call me when you know your schedule.”

I turned back to my sketch book and realized that my subject had paid her bill and left while I was gabbing with Amelia. Fudge.

My gaze was drawn back to the blond guy and I wondered what his story was. He really was a handsome man with strong features and icy blue eyes. His golden blond hair stopped a couple of inches above his shoulder and was tousled from his fingers running through it. He had a pen out and was intently looking at the paper in front of him. The corners of my mouth edged up into a small smile when I realized he was working on the crossword. At that very moment he looked up and caught me right in the eye. Gah. I quickly looked away but knew my cheeks were hot pink.

misscyn’s Death Eatin’ A Cracker

It was near midnight New Year’s Day and I’d just finished taking down my Christmas tree when I noticed the light flashing on my answering machine. “Who’d call me on New Year’s?” I wondered as I pushed the button.

“Hi, Sookie, it’s Alcide,” My heart leapt a little bit, Alcide has a very manly voice, even if he is a jerk. “Call me tomorrow when you get a chance. I have a business proposition for you.”

Oh, great, I thought. Now I’m gonna get dragged back into some Were shit, just when things were getting calmed down. I couldn’t help but be disappointed that the call wasn’t from Eric, or Quinn, or even Bill, wishing me a happy New Year. Jackass former lovers, I told myself. Tara had been telling me I needed to change my religion, so to speak, maybe meet someone new. I was beginning to think she may be right.

I had met someone, on Christmas to boot, and what a someone it had been! I found Preston the Were in my woods Christmas Eve and he had entertained me and lessened my loneliness for a short time. Although I enjoyed myself immensely, after he left I felt lonelier than before. “It’s a new year, Sookie,” I reprimanded myself. “You’re not gonna live forever, unlike those damn vampires. Quit letting them push you around.”

The next day I got up and called Alcide first thing.

“As you know the weres and shifters are coming out of the closet much like the vampires did several years ago,” he launched in. ” It’s going to be rough and we’re gonna need your help with the humans. As Pack Master I’d like to put you on salary. You’d either have to quit your job at the bar, or cut down to a few nights a week, because we’re gonna need you during the day. It’s full-time, with benefits, $60,000 a year. We’d give you a company car, and you’d have your own office in my office building. On paper, you’d work for Herveaux & Sons. But your real job would be as a public relations telepath for the weres and shifters.

We’d try to keep you nine to five. You could drive to Shreveport some days, work from home on others. We will buy you a laptop for use at your house. We need a public relations type person, and you would be it. The advantage would be that you would know what the humans are thinking, and help us foresee the problems before they come about. We really need you, Sookie.

“But Eric and the new King,” I said before Alcide cut me off.

“Haven’t offered you a permanent position, only pay you by the job, and then, sometimes you don’t even get that,” he said sharply. “Sorry, Sookie, but I know how you’ve had to suffer, and how they jerk you around. Someone with your talent, someone who has saved their asses so many times, and you have to scrape by on waitress tips? If you want to help the vamps in your spare time you can, and if we can spare you from the office, when they have something really important, we will lend you out. But you’re getting older, Sookie, you can’t waitress forever, no one can. It’s hard on your body, being on your feet, it’s physical labor, and it’s crazy for someone with your talent. Please consider.”

“Sam” I said weakly.

“Like I said, you could still work for him some at night and on the weekends if you really wanted, Sookie. But your job now is a dead end and you know it. Those vamps take advantage of you having such a menial position that’s so easy to miss work and get someone to cover for you.”

I told him I would consider it and hung up the phone. Shit shit shit, I have to make a decision. Sixty grand a year! I thought with a jump. And a company car. And it wouldn’t be like I was being put up by a boyfriend. taking charity from Eric, or anything like that. I would have a real job, and it would not just be my telepathy. Alcide had really though this out. College classes, public relations, I know what people think, would it really be that hard to figure out what they wanted to hear? Isn’t that what a PR person does? I started getting excited at the thought.

And he was right. Although I technically was bonded to Eric, I had no deal with the new regime, other than I was under their protection. And I could still help them out from time to time, they went months without needing me, so what was the big deal?

“This is bullshit,’ I said out loud. “I need to eat. I need to pay my bills. This is a stupendous (yeah, yeah, Word of the Day) opportunity. I could learn some real skills, some that use my special ability, but are not dependent on it. I’d be a fool to pass this up.”

Zigster’s The Bitch and the HellCat

Senior year and we were still saluting the flag. Some things never changed.

I glanced back, I couldn’t help myself, curious to see if Eric had actually stood like I knew he wouldn’t. He didn’t, I was right.

He was lounging across three seats in the back of the room, his long legs draped over the desks in a haphazard elegant way. He saw me staring and gave me a wink as the pledge was winding down. I sneered at him. He had a cigarette behind his ear and brought it to his lips.

My mouth dropped open. Seriously? He wouldn’t dare! No, in fact he most certainly would.

I couldn’t believe it. It was like watching a trainwreck. I couldn’t look away.

“… and to the republic…”

Out came his zippo next, he flicked open the metal top and gave me a look, daring me to snitch. Like I would ever stop this insanity from happening. But still, this was just dumb.

“… for which it stands….”

“Don’t do it!” I mouthed to him. He merely leered back at me.

“… one nation…”

He rasped the lighter to life with his thumb.

“… under God…”

That was the kicker. Flick. He lit the cigarette, pulling in a drag as the end of it glowed red from the flame, his strong cheekbones becoming even prominent as he inhaled.

People were still saying the pledge around us. Only a few had caught on to the smell of smoke in the room. Eric’s eyes flashed with devious intent the next second. My hand dropped from its position over my heart at that point, and I fully turned to face the back of the room. A few kids followed suit. The teacher was oblivious.

What was he doing now?

He shot up in one fluid movement. Standing on the chair of his desk, paired with his intimidating height, he almost reached the high ceilings of the old school. He gave me a wink – I winced – before turning his face up and blowing a steady stream of smoke towards the sprinkler system above him.

“… for liberty, and justice for all.” At that, the room exploded into a monsoon of water. Well, at least I knew now that the ancient sprinkler system worked, as I was instantly drenched in freezing artificial rain. Four years and never once had I seen it kick into action.

Alarms and screams sounded throughout the school. People grabbed purses and notebooks, finding anything that could cover them from the spray. I just stood in disbelief. Any hope I had for beating the humidity in the fight against my hair now seemed futile. I was soaked.

We hadn’t even finished homeroom, and Eric Northman had managed to have the entire school evacuated before the beginning of first period.
